I think that democracy creates stability in a society.
Firstly, democracy emphasises the rights of the people, which means that the people on the street have every single right to run the country in certain ways. Most often, this is done by voting for the government which has the closest ideal to theirs. This will reinforce the impact that they have on their country and how it is being run. Democracy is good because the majority of the people are less prone to making mistakes than just a single dictator.
Democracy has been called the tyranny of the majority, dictatorship in a nicer form and many other names, but I think that democracy is a system that ensures that stability is maintained. It is a very practical solution to forming a government. No doubt it may not be the most ideal system of things around and it may not sound as nice as communism or Marxism. However, in such a world such as the one we are living in, even the most idealistic system falls to corruption and becomes a total mess in the end. This is because a single person is in power and the rest of the people cannot enforce their will upon him. In democracy, this does not happen. Obviously, even in democracy, corruption is still rampant in certain countries that have been considered fully democratic, but what I am discussing is whether democracy creates more stability than chaos.
In a perfect society, there would be stability. In an opposing society, chaos will ensue no matter what the system is. The world we are living in today is in between both, and what we have to do is try to bring it closer to a perfect society in order to bring about stability. This is especially true to this topic as all ideals are always wonderful, but as history has shown, Communism and Marxism, even though wonderous as ideals, have been eradicated in the course of history, but democracy still lives on because it is a practical solution to solve the problem of instability.
Furthermore, apart from looking at social stability, we can also look at the aspect of political stability. Democracy ensures relative polictical stability because the government in power cannot be disputed as the votes have already spoken apart from saying that the votes were unfair and miscounted or the likes of the issue. This is important as without a clear government, more than one government will be vying for power and the state is controlled with no clear goal in mind, which will definitely lead to conflicting actions and nobody reaching the ideal of a state. Hence, in this way, democracy will bring us one big step closer to political stability.
In conclusion, democracy creates stability in a society.

Review on Article "Chopper-wielding gang slashes teenager in Tampines
This article relates the incident where a teenager was walking home and then suddenly he saw a group of 9 youths. He looked at them one by one and consequently he was asked to stop and when he tried to answer, one of them whipped out a chopper from his trousers and the rest followed, and proceeded to hack and slash him.
I personally think that the fault totally lies with the youths who attacked. It is hypothesised that they were looking for a fight as they already had choppers with each and every one of them. However, I think that the incident happened not just because of the youths. I think there must have been a reason why the incident was sparked off.
In the newspaper article, it was mentioned that the victim had looked at them before they attacked him. This may have caused the misguided youths to feel that they were being treated as out of the society and hence felt that they had to stand up and fight for their own rights, and hence impulsively started attacking the victim. The looking at them in a way would have been a catalyst for the incident to happen. Hence, although it was not the fault of the victim that the incident occured, he could have always taken preventive measures to prevent this from happening, for example, by not looking at them in a strange way. I, however, do not feel that the fault lies with the victim as looking at somebody passing by can be natural especially when you have a feeling that one of them looks like your friend from an angle but you did not get to see clearly. Hence, I think that we must be careful how we treat other people, not just with the way we see them but also how we speak to them and how we interact with them. Therefore, the fault actually lies with the attacking youths as they had no reason to attack even if provoked. Violence definitely does not solve problems as your opponent will not see the light in what you believe in and hence will eventually stand up and fight for what they think is right, and so violence should be abstained from at all times and in all situations.
Also, another way to stop this from happening is to have your own opinion in a group and not follow the leader as I believe on their own, the youths which attacked would not have resorted to such a degree of violence even if they were provoked. In a group, if you just follow the leader, you can be mislead very easily and do things that will later seem totally silly. Also, thinking before you act is extremely important and can make you abstain from doing things that you would potentially regret for the rest of your life. Stay in a group. Have friends, but it is important that you do not lose your mind and opinions in the process.
